Oil pollution Exercise - October 2002

Some times we get involved with other, non-sports activities, such as providing communications during Emergency Exercises.
Exercise Black Knight - a simulation of a major oil spill in the Firth of Forth - took place over a 2-day period in October 2002. Lothians RAYNET provided 2-way radio comms between the Shoreline Response Centre located at the Edinburgh City Chambers and the incident area on Portobello Beach where the oil was expected to come ashore.

Over the years we have taken part in many training exercises organised by our Council Emergency Planning Officers in The Lothians and in Edinburgh. These include full a scale mock disaster involving several hundred casualities after a simulated collision in the Firth of Forth between a passenger ferry and another vessel as well as several simulated train crashes and other such "disaster scenarios" organised by our local Emergency Planning Officers - CEPO's.
Several of our members, many of which are still active with Lothians Raynet, also assisted during the disaster at Lockerbie. Thankfully, such real events are few and far between.
